New video promotes confidential advice service for victims of domestic abuse

A new video produced by Camden Council shows that domestic abuse can happen to anyone regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation or culture, and promotes its confidential advice service to support victims.

Camden Safety Net currently receives 250 referrals every month. Domestic abuse remains one of the most underreported crimes, with only 35 percent of incidents thought to be reported, says the council. The “Know You’re Not Alone” campaign aims to address this and make sure that anyone who is experiencing any type of abuse knows where to go for help.

Councillor Jonathan Simpson, cabinet member for Community Safety said: “Tackling domestic violence and abuse in Camden continues to be one of our top priorities.

“Domestic abuse can happen to anyone. Although it isn’t possible to highlight every type of abuse, through the ‘Know You’re Not Alone’ video we hope to break the silence that can surround the issue and reach out to as many people as possible.

“This is not just a council campaign, it’s a community campaign, and along with residents, community groups, and the emergency services we will share the message that victims are not alone, and there is help and support available.”

For anyone in Camden experiencing domestic abuse, or who knows someone who is, there is help and support available via the confidential advice service Camden Safety Net on 020 7974 2526. camden.gov.uk/know
