For the past few years Jean-Claude Thompson has been holding a low-key live music event in front of the building containing his second floor record shop. It’s the only time the shop is visible unless you happen to notice the sign on the doorbell or several floors up in the window.

This year the guest artists include Collocutor, Jeb Loy Nichols, Ady Suleiman, and Cecilia Stalin.

Record Store Day started in 2007 when over 700 independent shops in the USA got organised. The UK followed and 2015 will be the eighth celebration of the UK’s independently owned record stores. Special vinyl and CD releases and promotional products are made exclusively for the day and hundreds of artists across the globe make special appearances and performances.

This could be the last event in Langham Street as the owners of the building have been given permission to turn the shops and offices into luxury flats. But If Music owner Jean-Claude Thompson has told Fitzrovia News that he is determined to set up another shop in Fitzrovia.

If Music presents: You Need This. From 9am Saturday 18 April 2015, 36 Langham Street, Fitzrovia, London W1W 7AP.
