Travel show offers a world of inspiration

If you are in search of an active holiday in 2015 then an event in west London during January will help you decide what to do and where to go. The Adventure Travel Show at Olympia London brings together a huge collection of travel companies, writers, filmakers and explorers, with stalls, talks, seminars and films. And Fitzrovia News is offering our readers the chance to win tickets to the show.

Now in its 19th year the Adventure Travel Show offers something for walkers, cyclists and those in search of active travel and exploring away from the usual holiday destinations.

Included in the price of a ticket is access to a choice of over 100 talks given by notable adventurers including explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes and mountaineer Doug Scott.

One speaker to watch out for is Helen Lloyd, an accomplished cycle-tourist who in 2009 traveled solo 25,000 kilometres across Africa and then wrote a book about it. Another journey she undertook by bike was across Asia which included long sections of cycling (and pushing the bike) through snow.

A speaker who also seems to enjoy the cold is Ann Daniels, a polar explorer who has walked both North and South Poles as part of a women’s team. Aside from being a record-breaking explorer she is a motivational speaker and a mother of four children.

But it is not all about arduous journeys across continents. There’s a world of information to hand about trekking, climbing, kayaking, diving, and exploring more temperate environments.

There are also exhibitors from organisations offering volunteering opportunities both overseas and in the UK.
